Six more persons arrested for theft in Clarke Quay

Police arrested six men aged between 22 and 25 for theft on April 21, bringing to 18 the total number of suspects arrested for such crimes in Clarke Quay since the start of 2013.

The arrests took place during an anti-crime operation by Tanglin Police Division, which police said are part of larger efforts to address the trend of opportunistic thefts targeting drunk and unconscious victims around nightspots and public entertainment outlets.

Police are urging members of the public to be mindful that excessive alcohol consumption can reduce mental alertness, cause drowsiness and make them a potential target of crime. In a statement on Wednesday, they advised individuals to remain alert to their surroundings and people around when patronising nightspots.

A person found guilty of an offence of theft is punishable with imprisonment of up to three years and a fine.
