Reminder to sign up for GST vouchers by end of year

SINGAPORE - Singaporeans who are eligible for GST vouchers should sign up by Dec 31, if they have yet to do so, the Ministry of Finance said Wednesday.

As of September, about 23,000 Singaporeans who are eligible for GST Cash Vouchers and GST Medisave Vouchers had yet to sign up. A total of $18 million has been set aside for them, according to the ministry.

Eligible Singaporeans were first notified of their benefits in a July letter. Those who have not signed up since then will receive reminder letters before Nov 19.

Sign ups can be done online at the GST Voucher website (www.gstvoucher.gov.sg) or by completing a sign-up form available at any community centre, community development council or CPF service centre.

The GST Voucher, introduced in 2012 to help lower-and middle-income households with their expenses, is given in three parts - cash, Medisave and U-Save, which provides HDB households with a rebate to offset their utilities bills .

Only those who are eligible for GST cash vouchers and GST Medisave vouchers need to sign up. There is no need to sign up for the GST U-Save vouchers.

The government has disbursed about $490 million in GST cash vouchers, and about $112 million in GST Medisave vouchers, as of September this year. About 800,000 HDB households would have also automatically received the GST U-Save vouchers amounting to $45 million in October.
