SINGAPORE – When I gave my 14-year-old daughter a mobile phone two years ago, I decided not to let her have access to social media.

I had read about the negative impact of Instagram on teenage girls and wanted to delay social media for her for as long as I could. Studies have found social media to be linked to various ills, including addiction, depression and body-image issues.
