SINGAPORE - Permanent Secretary for Defence Chan Yeng Kit has been appointed chairman of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Ministry for Communications and Information (MCI) announced on Monday (Nov 30).

The new appointment takes effect from tomorrow (Dec 1).

He succeeds IDA's outgoing chairman Yong Ying-I, who steps down after eight years.

Mr Chan had formerly been chief executive of IDA from January 2005 to November 2007, as well as the Permanent Secretary for Information, Communication and the Arts, from 2008 to 2012.

During his tenure at IDA, he spearheaded the development of the Intelligent Nation iN2015 Masterplan.

It was also during his term that the infocomm industry recorded an all-time high growth, with total revenue reaching S$45.4 billion in 2006, MCI said in a press release on Monday.

In addition, three new members have been appointed to serve on the IDA board for a twoyear term from tomorrow.

Eleven other members have been reappointed for a further two-year term, MCI said.
