No injuries in fire at pre-school

There were no reported injuries after a fire broke out on the ground floor of Pre-school By-The-Park in Shelford Road yesterday morning. The blaze spread upwards in the three-storey semi-detached house, causing part of the roof to collapse. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at 6.50am and the fire was put out within one hour by officers using three water jets inside the house. Two more jets were set up outside to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent house and to nearby buildings.The cause of the fire is under investigation.


Man jailed for molesting teenager aboard train

An electrician who followed a teenage commuter around and molested her was jailed for three weeks yesterday. Indian national Ravi Raja, 33, repeatedly touched the 19-year-old girl's buttocks after boarding the same train on Dec 9, 2014. Throughout the 15-minute journey from City Hall to Lavender station, he stood behind the girl and followed her whenever she moved.


Woman cyclist fatally hit by concrete mixer

A 59-year-old woman was killed by a concrete mixer that hit her as she was cycling across a pedestrian crossing on Monday morning. Police said the accident occurred at 11.21am at the junction of Yishun Avenue 9 and Yishun Central.

The victim, Madam Lin Shui Yu, was returning home from Sembawang Hot Springs with two friends when the truck cut into their path. Narrowly missing the other women, it hit Madam Lin, who was in the middle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the 50-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly causing death by a rash act. Investigations are ongoing.
