'Twas the day before Christmas, and shoppers milled around bedecked halls as they soaked up the festive spirit and jostled to pick up last-minute gifts for friends and family.

Some thronged Orchard Road to see its decorations of wreaths and baubles. Others waited in line for presents of toys and clothes to be wrapped in pretty paper or hunted for sweet treats like chocolates and cookies.

Children at Tanglin Mall had their own white Christmas in the tropics as they frolicked in "snow" that descended upon them outside the shopping mall in the evening.

Others stopped to admire a giant Christmas tree at Raffles City shopping centre, complete with ornamental toadstools and treehouse.

At Wesley Methodist Church, more than 1,000 people ushered in Christmas on Wednesday evening at its annual Carols by Candlelight service. Churchgoers lit candles and shared the light with others around them, in an allusion to the birth of Jesus.
