An import ban on food from seven prefectures in Japan was lifted on Monday. The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) said in a statement on Monday that it found food from these areas safe to eat.
Import of milk and milk products, meat and meat products, eggs, seafood, fruits and vegetables from Tokyo, Chiba, Ibaraki, Gunma, Kanagawa, Saitama and Tochigi were banned in March 2011 because of radioactive contaminants, following the earthquake.
Even though the import ban has been lifted, all product consignments from these prefectures has to come with a certificate of origin and a pre-export laboratory report to ensure the food is free of radioactive contaminants.
Currently, only food from Fukushima prefecture remains banned.
