$888,888 raised through Transport Ministry charity programme

SINGAPORE - Some $888,888 has been raised for beneficiaries of Community Chest by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and its statutory boards.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew presented a cheque to Mr Chew Kwee San, vice-chairman of the Community Chest committee, at a MOT Family Charity Outreach 2014 event on Thursday. Now into its fifth year, the ministry's charity programme has raised more than $4 million for Community Chest, the fundraising arm of the National Council of Social Service.

On Thursday, some beneficiaries and their family members were also treated to a movie premiere of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar at Shaw Theatres Lido. Nolan is known for his other movies like Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.

Said Mr Lui: "The MOT Family is glad to host our friends to this movie premiere. I talked to a few of them and I understand they are working very hard to achieve their ambitions. I hope the yearly contributions from the MOT Family Charity Outreach programme will help them in a meaningful way."
