SINGAPORE - Tickets for the SG50 exhibition Future Of Us are being snapped up fast, and more than 85 per cent of tickets made available for its opening month of December are already booked.
Mr Gene Tan, who is creative director for the exhibition, said at a media preview on Tuesday that the organisers hope to reach out to 700,000 people during its run, which will end in March next year. They have set aside 200,000 tickets for December.
The exhibition is the capstone event to the year-long SG50 Golden Jubilee celebrations, and will formally be launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this Sunday.
Admission is free for members of the public, although visitors are urged to register for tickets at the website www.thefutureofus.sg. Tickets for January will be made available starting next Tuesday.
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, who heads the SG50 Steering Committee, said on Tuesday that he hopes the exhibition will inspire Singaporeans to come together, share and commit aspirations into actions for a better Singapore.
He added: "Our future is really for all of us to continue to imagine, shape, and strive for, together, based on our shared values."
The exhibition, covering 6,000 sq m at the Gardens By The Bay, promises an immersive, interactive and multi-sensory experience over six zones. To keep the exhibition relatable for visitors, the organisers said, they fleshed out ideas using the "minutiae of everyday life", telling the stories from the perspective of citizens rather than urban planners.
More than 100 public, private and people sector organisations across different industries were consulted for ideas by the organising committee. Some 15,000 ideas were also contributed by members of the public, including Singaporeans living abroad.
Mr Tan said some 99 per cent of the ideas featured in the exhibition are already at the research or prototype stage, though the organisers also included some quirky and whimsical ideas that were contributed by children.
"It is important that visitors to the exhibition understand the future has not been cast in stone," said Mr Tan.
"We hope every Singaporean who visits The Future Of Us will be inspired to start thinking, sharing and even (getting) actively involved in the future of 'us' to write the next chapter of the Singapore story together."
