In Singapore, gig workers are a diverse group, including those in the sharing economy such as private-hire car drivers, as well as other self-employed people like real estate agents and private tutors.

However, a large subset known as platform workers have been found to need greater protection as their generally modest incomes, lack of savings and higher risk of injury put them in precarious positions.
