SINGAPORE - Inuka, the first polar bear born in the tropics, turned 24 on Friday.

As a birthday treat, his keepers at the Singapore Zoo presented the male bear with a giant ice kachang cake made of his favourite food such as salmon, blueberries, watermelon and strawberries topped with whipped cream.

At 24, Inuka is well into his senior years. He is the star of the Zoo's Frozen Tundra enclosure, which features climate-controlled resting areas and a large pool to swim in.

Inuka was born in his mother's den at the Singapore Zoo in the early hours of Dec 26, 1990. Zookeepers affectionately refer to him as their "best Christmas present ever".
