SINGAPORE- Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) instructors will train and mentor the inaugural batch of Youth Corps members who start their training later this month, said the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) in a statement on Thursday.

This follows a speech in Parliament last week by MCCY minister Lawrence Wong who said that OBS plays an important role in youth development. The ministry added that OBS, which was founded in 1967 by the late deputy prime minister Dr Goh Keng Swee and organises adventure-based learning activities, will be a key partner in the Youth Corps initiative.

The Youth Corps is a new scheme driven by both the MCCY and the National Youth Council to groom young volunteers.

Mr Wong who visited the OBS camp in Pulau Ubin on Thursday morning and met with student leaders undergoing a five-day leadership programme, said in a Facebook post that OBS has a team of trainers committed to the vision of "inspiring individuals, transforming communities".
