KABUL (REUTERS) - Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday that reports of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) torture at a detention centre in his country "violated all accepted norms of human rights in the world".

Calling the report "shocking," Ghani demanded to know how many Afghans were among those subjected to painful and humiliating interrogations at a secret CIA site in the country.

He spoke in a televised address following a US Senate report detailing the extent of US torture in the reaction to the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on American soil.

Shortly after the attacks, the US led an intervention to oust the Taleban regime in Afghanistan for sheltering Al-Qaeda.

Many of those interrogated in Afghanistan were suspected Al-Qaeda fighters.
