On the ball again for charity's sake

For the third year running, a group of golfers who play together regularly turned one of their monthly games into a fund-raising event for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The Lucky Dippers, as they are called, collected more than $328,000 for the fund to help needy schoolchildren, the largest amount they have raised.

At a dinner after the game at the Singapore Island Country Club on Thursday, more than $30,000 was raised from an auction, which included a sapphire necklace from Czarl gallery in Neil Road and a signed copy of the Chinese edition of the book Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths To Keep Singapore Going, by the former prime minister.

Major donors at the event included businessmen Lin Yucheng and Elvin Tan.

The group's charity initiative was spearheaded by businessmen P.T. Hong and Chan Chong Beng.
