Cross Island Line will connect Pasir Ris and Punggol

We thank Mr Osman V.P. Mohamed for his feedback ("Link up Pasir Ris and Punggol by train"; Forum Online, Aug 30).

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will enhance Singapore's rail connectivity as outlined in our Land Transport Master Plan 2013.

By 2030, we will double the length of our network from the existing 183km to about 360km, with eight in 10 homes located within a 10-minute walk from a train station.

The 50km Cross Island Line (CRL) is one of the major projects highlighted in our masterplan, along with the Thomson-East Coast Line and the Jurong Region Line.

Mr Osman will be pleased to know that the CRL will span across Singapore, from Changi to the Jurong Industrial Estate, with an eastern leg that will link Pasir Ris with Punggol.

We expect the CRL to be completed around 2030.

As it takes time to plan and construct new rail lines, we have improved bus services along the east and north-east corridor by adding more trips during peak hours, including enhancing the frequency of services that ply the Tampines Expressway, such as services 3, 34, 39, 88, 89 and 109.

We will also continue to monitor the demand and will improve existing bus services and/or introduce new bus services where necessary.
