Should national servicemen have a bigger say in what they are served? Would this cut food wastage?

Having a bigger say would spell trouble because different people would ask for different menus. Also, the whole idea of basic military training is to let our boys experience "hardship", including eating what is given.

The servings are recommended by nutritionists.

If the soldiers choose to have smaller portions, it would be just individuals wasting food.

But, imagine if the cookhouses reduce the recommended portion and, one day, someone faints due to the lack of a proper diet.

Whose fault would it be then?

Gerald Teng

There must be two-way communication and understanding between the server at the cookhouse and the serviceman.

Some may not like certain foods or, sometimes, the portion of rice is too much.

Then, they should speak up and not keep quiet.

Those who are hungry can also ask for more servings.
