PETALING JAYA (Bernama) - A couple were charged at the Magistrate's Court in Petaling Jaya on Monday (June 5) for caning their son to death.

No plea were recorded from Aaron Teoh Eng Wan, 34, and his wife En Sit Mooi, 36, pending transfer of the case to the High Court.

They are accused of murdering Adrian Teoh Wai Kit aged nine years in Subang Jaya between 2pm and 3.30pm on May 26, as charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code read with Section 34 of the same code, which carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction.

The couple were also charged in the Sessions Court with physically abusing their son repeatedly using two canes at the same place, time and date.

The charge under Section 31(1)(b) of the Child Act 2001 carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a fine of up to 20 years or both, on conviction.

Both judge Azwarnida Affandi and magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir set July 12 for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Natasha Chin Le Jy and Nadiah Malik Fauzie did not propose bail for the duo who were unrepresented.
