Table Tennis: Yu Mengyu upsets top seed from Japan for place in Poland Open final

SINGAPORE - National table tennis player Yu Mengyu scored an upset against Japan's world No. 4 Kasumi Ishikawa in the semi-finals of the Poland Open on Sunday, beating the tournament top seed swiftly 11-9, 11-9, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8.

The win levels Yu's head-to-head record against Ishikawa, the highest-ranked non-Chinese player in the world. The Singaporean had been 7-8 before their latest encounter.

Yu, ranked No. 23 in the world, will play Japan's Miu Hirano in the final on Sunday night.

Yu's impressive run to the final had included a win over South Korea's top paddler and world No. 12 Seo Hyo Won.
