SINGAPORE- Shanti Pereira, Singapore's sole representative at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships held at Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium, failed to qualify for the women's 200m semi-finals on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Republic Polytechnic student finished last in Heat Five, with a timing of 24.22sec.

Her timing was short of her personal best of 23.60, set when she won gold at the SEA Games in June.

Competing for the first time since the biennial Games, Pereira ran beside Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown, the 2004 and 2008 Olympic champion, who won the heat in 22.79.
