SINGAPORE - She entered the contest on a whim after seeing her friends share it on Facebook, but little did Peh Yu Fen expect that she would be the one walking away with a shiny new gadget.

The 30-year-old engineer was announced as the lucky winner of The Straits Times' Apple Watch contest on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 9).

"I seldom take part in such contests and this is my very first time winning something, so it definitely is a big surprise," she said.

"ST's Facebook page is one the main sources of local news for me, as I do not usually read the papers and rely on social media to keep up with happenings."

Ms Peh - who has a four-year-old daughter and is due to deliver a boy next month - plans to gift the watch to her husband as he is a huge Apple fan.

The contest, launched on June 24 on ST's Facebook page, pulled nearly 21,000 shares. Readers took part by liking the paper's Facebook page and sharing the post.
