Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) smartwatch to launch on Feb 9

The Apple Watch Series 3 was announced last September - the GPS version was launched in Singapore in the same month, but consumers have to wait till tomorrow to get their hands on the GPS + Cellular model. ST PHOTO: TREVOR TAN

Almost 5 months after the release of the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) smartwatch, the cellular version is finally here in Singapore.

Unlike the GPS version, the Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) does not need to be connected to your iPhone all the time. You can wear it for runs and still receive all the notifications you are getting on your iPhone as well as answer calls.

You can even pay for your post-run drink using Apple Pay with this Apple Watch. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same as the GPS-only version.

Currently, you can only use the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) smartwatch with a Singtel mobile line.

In conjunction with the launch, Singtel is offering the NumberShare plan ($6.90 per month) that allows you to share the phone number, data and talktime with the cellular Apple Watch.

You do not need to buy the smartwatch from Singtel, as the subscription will be made during the initial setup with your iPhone.

But I found that I could not set up the watch, as I have an ancient multi-SIM subscription. I would need to unsubscribe from this plan before I could sign up NumberShare. So do take note.

We are still reviewing the cellular Apple Watch Series, so keep a lookout for the full review soon.

The Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) is available tomorrow (Feb 9) with prices starting from $598.
