SINGAPORE - Runners pounding the pavement at next month's Standard Chartered Marathon (SCMS) can now be tracked more easily with the introduction of the SCMS 2015 mobile app.

The new app, available on both iOS and Android platforms, has a live-tracking feature that would enable runners to share their position in real time with friends and family on raceday, providing an enhanced experience for supporters.

It is the first time the SCMS - now in its 14th edition -is launching a mobile app.

According to the SCMS organisers, this year's event will be the first in South-east Asia to offer real time runner-tracking.

Supporters and runners alike will be able to search for participants by their names or bib numbers. The timing data of all runners will also be updated as they cross the timing mats, allowing supporters to be at the right place at the right time to cheerthem on.

The app also doubles up as a virtual personal coach that offers fitness plans for runners across all levels, which can be customised according to each particpant's running experience, goals for the race and commitment to train.

In addition, registration for this year's race has been extended to Nov 30.

This is in view of some runners who may have suspended training in lieu of the recent haze situation.
