60% polled say Mori should step down
TOKYO • Nearly 60 per cent of people in Japan think Yoshiro Mori is unfit for his role as head of the Tokyo Olympics organising committee, according to a poll conducted by Kyodo News yesterday.
While the 83-year-old former premier apologised for his sexist comments, he has refused to resign amid an outcry and a petition calling for action in what is another headache for the organisers already battling public disquiet about the virus-postponed Games.

Murray blasts centre's coronavirus controls
LONDON • Former world No. 1 Andy Murray yesterday raised doubts about the Lawn Tennis Association's health protocols at its high-performance training facility after he tested positive for Covid-19 and had to miss the Australian Open, which starts today.
The three-time Grand Slam winner, who also revealed that his wife Kim and his three children had caught the virus, believes he was infected at the centre as he "stuck to all of the protocols", adding he was "p****d off" with the whole situation.

Ali's conqueror Spinks dies of cancer at 67
LAS VEGAS • Leon Spinks, who scored one of boxing's greatest upsets, died aged 67 in Henderson, Nevada, a spokesman said on Saturday.
He defeated Muhammad Ali to capture the heavyweight championship in February 1978 but lost his crown in a rematch seven months later and never again found glory in the ring.
The Olympic light heavyweight gold medallist at the 1976 Montreal Games had been hospitalised for treatment of prostate cancer that spread to his bladder in December 2019.

Johnson earns Saudi win despite late blip
KING ABDULLAH ECONOMIC CITY • World No. 1 Dustin Johnson carded his worst round of the golf tournament but still did enough to win the Saudi International yesterday.
The American managed only three birdies, offset by a bogey on the 16th hole, to sign for a two-under 68 and finish at 15-under 265, two shots ahead of his compatriot Tony Finau (67) and Englishman Justin Rose (65), who tied for second place.

Budapest to host Leipzig v Liverpool
