The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) unveiled on Saturday the 145 para athletes who will represent Team Singapore at the Dec 3-9 Asean Para Games, which the Republic is hosting.

The contingent - with 80 of them making their Games debut - is Singapore's largest ever, and almost three times the number at the 2013 Asean Para Games in Myanmar. The athletes will compete across 14 of the 15 sports on offer at the biennial meet.

This year's edition will also be the largest Games organised, with 11 participating countries, 3,000 athletes and officials and 3,000 volunteers.

Said Dr Mark Hon, SNPC deputy chairman: "We wish our contingent of 145 athletes a stellar performance in front of the Singapore home crowd. This is an excellent oppurtunity for our sporting talents to rise above their personal best."

Marc Chiang, captain of the Republic's goalball team, said: "Just one year ago, I would never have guessed that I will have the chance to represent my country in a regional sports tournament. The team knows we are very privileged to be given this opportunity to perform in front of a local crowd and will give our utmost best to make Singapore proud this December."
