PETALING JAYA (BERNAMA) - Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has been officially confirmed as the new president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin made the announcement at 10.15am Saturday during FAM's 53rd Congress.

According to Hamidin, Tunku Ismail was announced the winner of the FAM president's post unopposed after getting the support of all the delegates.

"With the withdrawal of Tan Sri Annuar Musa as a candidate (for the president's post), I suggested Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim be elected unopposed," he said, adding that the proposal received the support of all delegates thus confirming the post belonged to Tunku Ismail.

Mr Annuar, the advisor to the FA of Kelantan, announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy 48 hours before the Congress began.
