SINGAPORE - A week after their unceremonious exit from Malaysian football, the LionsXII have been disbanded and its players dispersed to join the various S-League clubs for the 2016 season.

At the meeting at ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio at 3pm on Friday afternoon, Fandi Ahmad's squad met up with Football Association of Singapore (FAS) officials where they were told the news.

"We are all feeling sad now," said centre-back Madhu Mohana.

"We had become a family together after the last few years and it is sad we are going our separate ways."

The FAS will meet with S-League club officials on Friday evening to discuss how the players will be assigned to the various clubs.

It is also believed that some of the key players, like Safuwan Baharudin and Khairul Amri, are considering offers from Malaysian state teams.

In 2011, the FAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to allow their respective developmental teams to play in each other's domestic leagues across the Causeway.

But the FAM made a surprise announcement last week that it is not renewing the MOU, leaving the LionsXII stranded.
