Figure skating: Singapore National Figure Skating Championship held this weekend

SINGAPORE - The 15th Singapore National Figure Skating Championship will be held this weekend at The Rink @ JCube.

A total of 93 participants, including those from Indonesia and Malaysia, will compete in 20 categories over the two-day competition. It starts from 5.30pm-11pm on Saturday and 10.45am-5pm on Sunday.

President of Singapore Ice Skating Association (Sisa) Sonja Chong said: "The aim is for the Singapore National Figure Skating Championship to be an all-inclusive competition that caters to everyone - from beginner to higher level national skaters.

"The various event categories have been introduced to maximise the skaters' experience, regardless of their age and technical competencies."

Two winter sports, ice hockey and ice skating, will make their debut at next year's SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in August.

Chong noted: "Sisa will only have about 16 months to prepare its skaters and it makes this year's edition of the Singapore National Figure Skating Championship all the more significant - in providing a competitive platform for local skaters to pit their abilities with each other."
