SINGAPORE - The green and white uniforms for Tower Transit bus captains were unveiled on Sunday at the official opening of the Bulim Bus Depot in Jurong.

The uniforms feature the corporate colours of the London-based company - Singapore's first foreign bus operator - and were chosen out of four designs after an online poll of 3,605 bus captains and members of the public.

An open day carnival on Sunday at the 10ha depot saw some 2,000 visitors, who toured facilities such as the staff canteen and recreation centre. They also took photographs on some Tower Transit buses.

MP for Hong Kah North Amy Khor opened the depot, which can house 500 buses.

Tower Transit will run 26 bus services in the western part of Singapore from the second quarter of 2016.

It announced previously that its Singaporean bus drivers will receive a starting basic wage of $1,865 a month, which is five to 15 per cent more than that offered by existing bus operators SBS Transit and SMRT, although Tower's total monthly package including incentives is similar to SBS Transit's. It will offer female staff 26 weeks of paid maternity leave.
