Top hotel chefs cook up treats for charity homes

SINGAPORE - Chefs and residents of four local charity homes will soon enjoy greater diversity and taste in their menus, as part of a first-of-its-kind community outreach launched on Wednesday.

Eat Well With Us is a partnership between the Pan Pacific Hotels Group, as part of its corporate social responsibility, and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

Hotel chefs from Pan Pacific will share healthy recipes and culinary techniques with resident cooks at AWWA Senior Community home, Bright Hill Evergreen Home, Melrose Home Children's Aid Society and Singapore Cheshire Home.

Recipes include steamed fish fillet with pumpkin Puree and healthy garden vegetable soup. The recipes take into account the health needs of residents as well as the costs for the participating charity homes.

Eight participating chefs from the Pan Pacific Hotels Group will rotate around the four homes in pairs and work with their respective cooking teams.

At Singapore Cheshire Home on Wednesday, residents were treated to some of the new recipes cooked by chefs including Andy Oh of Pan Pacific Orchard.

Ong Tui Fung, 58, a resident cook at Singapore Cheshire Home for the past 17 years, said: "Through this outreach, I have learnt to cook with different techniques and seasonings to make the dishes more flavourful."

Cheshire Home resident Loke Peng Mun, 43, said: "The food was delicious. It was out of the ordinary. I particularly enjoyed the eight treasures rice."
