SINGAPORE - A three-year-old girl left alone at home fell from her fourth storey window on Wednesday (Jan 20).

The child was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where she spent the night in the intensive care unit.

Her grandmother had left her alone at home to go to the shops, reported Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at Serangoon North Ave 4.

The flat's windows were not outfitted with grilles.

An eye witness identified only as Mr Chua, 60, told the Chinese daily he had been on his way to pick his grandson. "I saw a girl lying motionless on the ground and immediately touched her arm to see if she was alive," he said.

The retiree then got passers-by to seek help from a nearby clinic. He said the doctor examined the girl and gave her an oxygen mask.

According to the report, the girl's grandmother and mother arrived shortly after. Both were distraught and in tears.
