For decades, The Straits Times (ST) has been synonymous with comprehensive, timely and trusted news coverage.
Building on that, Singapore's most-read newspaper will now aim to provide much more than news reports and analysis round the clock.
Drawing on the experience of seasoned correspondents in its newsroom and its expanding slate of technological innovations, ST is rolling out some new offerings that will allow its audiences to experience and enjoy, and benefit from, its content in fresh ways.
These initiatives range from special-interest websites and innovative digital media platforms to exclusive events organised by the paper.
ST subscribers can also look forward to discounts as well as special access and privileges from ST's partner merchants and advertisers.
All these bonuses will come under ST's latest brand initiative, dubbed ST+, and framed under the tagline "news with benefits".
Said ST editor Warren Fernandez: "The key benefit we can offer to our ST readers is timely, reliable news and views on issues that matter to them, served in a whole variety of ways to suit their needs throughout the day. That remains our primary focus.
"Readers benefit from our reports by knowing how to get the best deals for cars or houses and other purchases, which school to pick for their children, where to go on holiday, or where the best food or night out on the town is to be found."
Mr Fernandez, who is also editor-in-chief of the English, Malay and Tamil Media group at Singapore Press Holdings, ST's parent company, added: "But readers want more. They want to be able to engage newsmakers and journalists, gain access to major events, as well as special discounts and privileges as added perks.
"This is what ST+ will deliver."
Some of the benefits under the ST+ campaign will be available only to subscribers, such as access to premium ST talks and events, while others will be open to all readers.
One new product for readers is STfood, which aims to be the preferred online destination for hungry and thirsty Singaporeans.
Launched today, the site will collate the latest food-related news, restaurant reviews from ST's expert food critics, and recipes from professional and amateur chefs.
It will also reward its first fans by serving up a buffet of mouthwatering giveaways in the coming weeks.
