Seven foreign heads of state and government to attend National Day Parade

SINGAPORE - Seven heads of state and government will be among foreign dignitaries from 18 countries to attend Sunday's National Day Parade at the Padang.

They include Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said all foreign guests invited are members of the East Asia Summit and United Kingdom.

Others include Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, who is here as the Queen's representative.

It will be the first time since 1969 that foreign leaders attend the Parade.

Before heading to the Padang for the evening parade, the foreign dignitaries will be hosted at a lunch at the Istana by President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

Also present will be Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Foreign Affairs minister K Shanmugam.
