SINGAPORE - A suspected war relic weighing about 11kg was detonated by the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team on Sunday (March 13) afternoon.

The projectile, which was discovered in the vicinity of East Coast Park in the morning, is the fourth war relic find announced on The Singapore Army's Facebook page this year.

SAF said its EOD team was activated following the discovery, and subsequently assessed the relic to be a 25 pounder (11.3kg) projectile.

It was safely disposed on site.

"Kudos to the EOD for always being operationally ready and keeping us safe!" the post added.

Last month, seven relics were found at a construction site near Changi Airport Terminal 2, while a 155m projectile was found in a Changi Coast construction site. A 105mm British projectile was also discovered in Sengkang West on Jan 22.

There were 11 incidents of war relic disposal in 2015.
