Police are investigating a video posted online which shows two men having sex while wearing the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) uniform.

The link to the video was posted at around 5am yesterday.

It was available on various websites, and screenshots were seen on forums.

It was also said to have been circulated on messaging app WhatsApp, according to the socio-political website The Independent Singapore.

A link posted on one streaming site yesterday afternoon had been seen almost 19,000 times in eight hours.

It is not known when or where the video was taken, and the men could not be identified.

They appeared to be in a room with the blinds drawn, in front of a desk.

One man's face is out of the frame of the picture, while the other man's face is pixellated.

The SCDF said in a statement that it has lodged a police report.

"SCDF takes a serious view of the matter and has lodged a police report," the statement said.

"The police are investigating the matter for an offence under the Films Act."

It is an offence to make, reproduce or distribute an "obscene film" under section 29 of the Act, whether it is for the purpose of exhibition or distribution.

If convicted, offenders may be fined from $20,000 to $40,000 and jailed up to two years.

For subsequent convictions, offenders may be fined from $40,000 to $100,000 and jailed up to two years.
