Online platform among initiatives to promote giving in Singapore

SINGAPORE - The National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) will soon launch Giving.sg, a one-stop platform for individuals and corporations interested in donating, volunteering or pledging.

To be launched in mid-November, the website will combine SG Cares and SG Gives, two existing online platforms dedicated to volunteerism and donations. Instead of focusing solely on giving one's time or money, Giving.sg aims to create a more engaging and holistic giving experience.

It is one of the initiatives NVPC is rolling out to encourage a giving culture in Singapore.

The centre will also be launching a national movement known as The Giving Week on the first week of December this year, which aims to promote a culture of giving throughout the festive season.

The Giving Week is inspired by the successes the past two #GivingTuesdaySG movement. #GivingTuesday was originally started in New York, and encourages individuals to pledge their commitment to giving, whether it is money or items.

The third #GivingTuesdaySG will be part of The Giving Week this year.

NVPC will also set up a Corporate Giving Advisory Council, providing a space for high-level decision makers to advance and influence corporate giving practices in Singapore.

"NVPC envisions a Singapore where goodness is the business of every organisation," said Mr Kenneth Wong, executive director of corporate giving at NVPC.

Other initiatives include encouraging more youth and skills-based volunteers to give their time for a cause or beneficiary.

Said Ms Melissa Kwee, chief executive of NVPC: "Giving can be fun, simple and meaningful. Everyone, regardless of their age, gender or background can contribute in their own capacity."

"We envision a compassionate society where giving is part of who are are."
