Individuals and organisations honoured with top tourism awards

SINGAPORE - Twenty-seven individuals and companies were recognised at the Singapore Experience Awards organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Wednesday night.

The awards, which was graced by Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry), Mr S Iswaran, honours the best in the tourism sector for providing exceptional service to make Singapore a top travel destination.

The night's top honours were awarded to two individuals and two companies.

Former chairman of the Orchard Road Business Association May Sng and former president of the Intelligent Transport Society of Singapore Sing Mong Kee were awarded the Lifetime Achievement for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism and Best Business Event Champion respectively.

Mrs Sng was recognised for her contributions towards the development of the Orchard Road precinct, initiating signature events like Fashion Steps Out and Christmas on a Great Street that built Orchard Road's reputation.

Mr Sing's award came on the back of his role as a Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Event (MICE) ambassador, in which he secured Singapore as a location for the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress in 2019.

On the organisation front, the Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism award went to the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

The 10-day tennis festival attracted over 129,000 fans, out of whom 20 per cent were overseas visitors. In addition, the matches were broadcast in over 177 countries, and received an estimated viewership of 27 million.

Mount Elizabeth Hospitals won Best Healthcare Experience for the third year running, and as such as also won the Exceptional Achievement award under the Special Recognition category this year.

STB chief executive Mr Lionel Yeo said: "It's extremely encouraging that we continue to see so many remarkable experiences delivered by our award finalists and recipients year after year.

"Tonight, by honouring their contributions, we celebrate their achievements and recognise that memorable experiences are the cornerstone of Singapore's appeal as a compelling destination. I hope their dedication and winning efforts will be an inspiration to others."
