In Pictures: Chinatown kicks off Mid-Autumn celebrations with dancers and fireworks
Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam officiated the opening ceremony for Mid-Autumn festivities at Chinatown on Sunday (Sept 13). There were drone lanterns and dance performances culminating with fireworks. This year's theme for the annual light-up is A Golden Jubilee Mid-Autumn.

New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street were closed to traffic on Sunday night for the opening celebrations, which included performances by Singaporean and overseas troupes.

A total of 2,300 lanterns lined the streets of Chinatown for the annual light-up. The centrepiece is a 12m-tall Merlion lantern, facing Upper Cross Street, which is designed by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts students and produced by a team of craftsmen from China.

Young students, aged between seven and 16, performing the opening act A Golden Jubilee Mid-Autumn Festival. The street performances featured landmarks such as the iconic old Toa Payoh playground as well as campaign mascots like Singa the Courtesy Lion and Water Wally that mark the key milestones in Singapore's history.
