SINGAPORE - A new website aimed at helping seniors to learn how to go digital was launched on Saturday (June 10) by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
The IM Silver Portal, at www.IMSilver.sg, provides online guides, ebooks, videos and seminars, teaching seniors how to use mobile and digital technologies.
The website has a clean design, large fonts and clear instructions.
Among the topics seniors can learn are: How to use mobile devices, how to use chat applications, and how to prevent cybercrime.
The portal, which was unveiled by Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim at IMDA's annual Silver IT Fest, complements the classroom sessions already available to the elderly at 31 Silver Infocomm Junctions (SIJs).
These senior-friendly infocomm learning hubs were launched in 2007, and about 80,000 participants have attended the technology classes offered there.
Other than offering online and classroom resources, IMDA will be working with the People's Association Active Ageing Council to encourage peer learning with a new Tech Silver Project, where seniors can learn from their more IT-savvy counterparts.
IMDA chief executive Mr Tan Kiat How said IMDA hopes many more seniors will take part in these new programmes.
"It is now even easier for seniors to learn how to use technology to stay connected with friends and family, enhance the quality of their lives through online resources and at the same time, stay safe from cybercrimes," he said.
