Five nabbed in drug bust
Five people were arrested and more than 2kg of drugs worth an estimated $156,000 was seized in a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation on Thursday.
The suspects - three Singaporean men in their 40s, a 21-year-old Indonesian woman and a 29-year-old Malaysian man - were arrested after CNB officers witnessed a drug exchange in a Bedok carpark. A total of about 1.9kg of heroin, 400g of cannabis and 50g of Ice, or methamphetamine, was seized, along with $5,880 in cash. Investigations are ongoing.
Teen arrested over loan-shark act
A 19-year-old was arrested on Thursday for allegedly setting fire to a flat belonging to a loan shark's debtor. He was believed to have started the blaze at the unit in Woodlands Street 31 on March 6.
Police said initial investigations also indicated that the youth was responsible for a similar case in Woodlands Circle on March 12.
Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of a loan shark, committing or attempting to commit harassment, can be jailed up to five years, fined between $5,000 and $50,000, and caned between three and six strokes.
SAF exercises start next week
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will conduct military and live-firing exercises over the next two weeks, the Ministry of Defence said. They will take place in areas in the west and north of Singapore, including Seletar, Tuas and Mandai. The public is advised not to be alarmed and to keep clear of the exercise areas.
