SINGAPORE - With just a sturdy chair and a towel, seniors from Jurong took part in a series of seven sit-down exercises on Sunday (March 26) morning.

The exercises, which help to develop muscles in the upper body, were part of the Health Promotion Board's (HPB) new You Can Get Moving campaign.

They aim to get those who may be less mobile to build strength and improve their balance and flexibility.

Senior Minister of State for Health Amy Khor, who was at the exercise session, said: "We want to let all seniors, including those with limited mobility, know that exercise is relevant and important to them."

The HPB recommends that people over 50 do strength and balance exercises at least twice a week, in addition to 150 minutes of moderately intense physical activity.

It has made a video of the seven sit-down exercises which can be viewed on the Healthy Ageing website.
