SINGAPORE - A fire broke out early Thursday morning in a carpark at The Arcadia, a condominium off Adam Road.

The fire happened at about 6.45am, near a resting room for chauffeurs of condominium residents. When The Straits Times arrived at about 10am, the top part of an entry point to the carpark and the ceiling was burnt black, and some wiring dangled from the ceiling. The front part of a car nearby was also mangled. It is not clear what caused the fire, and exactly where it started - the car or the resting room.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sent two fire engines, a Red Rhino, an ambulance, and a support vehicle. It used a water jet to put out the fire within 15 minutes.

Before the SCDF arrived, 40 residents had decided to evacuate. A man in his 50s had a minor cut on his left palm, but it is not clear if the injury was due to the fire, and he declined to be sent to the hospital.

SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.
