Fire at rubbish collection centre at Bedok North Street 2; no one injured

SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at Block 130, Bedok North Street 2, at about 2.30pm on Wednesday (April 13) afternoon, but no one was injured.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call reporting the fire at 2.35pm.

Straits Times reader Eleana Tan said she spotted smoke at Bedok North Street 2 at 2.37pm.

Mr Zech Lin, 27, a programme executive at a voluntary welfare organisation, took photos of the smoke from his home at Bedok North Road, Block 119.

Photos sent to The Straits Times showed thick clouds of smoke in the area.

SCDF said that the fire involved the contents of a rubbish collection centre at Block 130, Bedok North Street 2.

It was extinguished using three water jets, and no one was hurt.

Two fire engines, one red rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and two support vehicles were sent to the scene.

SCDF said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
