Pupils planning to ace their Primary School Leaving Examination Chinese oral assessment can get a headstart later this month.
Primary 4 and 5 pupils can join a training camp focused on the oral assessment, which gets a new format next year. The Dec 16 camp is organised by Lianhe Zaobao's Student Publications and Han Language Centre, which has over 20 branches here. It will be held at the Jurong East, Sengkang, Simei and Yishun branches, with teachers covering the new format and teaching practical skills.
The oral exam format for mother tongue languages will change next year. For instance, the picture description and conversation will be replaced by video conversation.
The camp will cost $150 per pupil.
Teachers will use a video oral guidebook published by Lianhe Zaobao's student paper Thumbs Up.
The centre, which offers Chinese tuition, will also incorporate content from Lianhe Zaobao's student publications into regular teaching materials. Mr Ann Jong Juan, its founder and principal, said the papers will be used to nurture a love for reading.
Ms Loh Woon Yen, vice-president of the Singapore Press Holdings Chinese Media Group's Culture, Education and New Growth unit, said the camp marks the start of the group's partnership with the centre.
"We will continue to roll out more interesting and relevant programmes and initiatives for primary and secondary school students, not only to help them cope with the demands of examinations, but also to cultivate their interest in the Chinese language," she added.
