SINGAPORE - Pictures of a double rainbow flooded social media on Sunday after heavy showers in many parts of Singapore.
From Woodlands to HarbourFront, netizens excitedly shared pictures of the rare double rainbow, with some even calling it a blessing.
In the Chinese culture, a double rainbow is considered auspicious and a reason for reflection and meditation.
A double rainbow is formed in the same way as a single rainbow - a spectrum of light appearing in the sky when the sun shines on droplets of moisture in the earth's atmosphere. With a double rainbow, however, two reflections are coming from the same area of rainfall.
The second rainbow is slightly fainter because sunlight is reflected internally twice by the same raindrops. Netizens even pointed out that their cameras could hardly pick up the second rainbow.
