Two teenagers arrested for robbing taxi driver of $25 and hurting him in Clementi

SINGAPORE -Police have arrested two teenagers, aged 17 and 19, for allegedly robbing a taxi driver of $25 and hurting him along Clementi Ave 1 on Thursday morning .

The police said in a statement on Thursday that they received the 60-year-old driver's complaint at about 4.15 am. The two suspects, both male, had fled towards Clementi Ave 2 afterwards, the driver had said.

Officers from Clementi Division then searched the area. They managed to trace and arrest one of the suspects along Clementi Ave 2 at about 6.50 am. The other suspect was arrested in his home in Clementi Ave 3 at 9.15am. All the stolen money was recovered.

The suspects are expected to be charged in court on Friday with robbery with hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

The offence carries a jail term of between five and 20 years, and caning of not fewer than 12 strokes.
