SINGAPORE - A contractor suffered a burn injury on his hand while carrying out maintenance works on the power-supplying third rail at Sembawang MRT station early Thursday (May 26) morning.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at the station at about 1.50am and dispatched one fire engine and one ambulance.
There was no fire, a spokesman said, adding that the man in his 20s was conveyed conscious with a burn injury on his left hand to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Train operator SMRT's vice-president of corporate information and communications Patrick Nathan said the necessary approval was given to access the track for the maintenance works.
Investigations are ongoing.
