SINGAPORE - Applications for a Certificate of Clearance (COC) will be fully digitalised from Jan 6, 2025.
The COC is issued by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to certify that a person has no criminal record within a stipulated period while in Singapore.
It will soon be issued to applicants as a digital document instead of a physical hard copy, said the police in a statement on Dec 24.
A COC costs $55 and takes between seven and 14 days to process and get approved.
Those who are eligible for a Singpass account need to apply for a COC online using their Singpass account. With Singpass, fingerprint impressions and scheduling an appointment to get them done will no longer be needed.
Those living overseas who are not eligible for a Singpass account, but who previously held a Foreign Identification Number (FIN) in Singapore, will also be able to apply for a COC online using their previous FIN, along with a digital scanned copy of their fingerprint impressions.
Successful applicants will receive an e-mail notification with a link to access their digital COC via the FileSG portal. They can then download and print the digital COC, which can be authenticated through the FileSG portal.
From Jan 6, hard-copy COCs will no longer be mailed to successful applicants, the police added.
The collection of hard-copy COCs and applications for duplicate copies of the COC on SPF’s e-Services website will also be discontinued. Those who want to apply for a COC can visit SPF’s website
