SINGAPORE - A 63-year-old man has been arrested for stealing undergarments in a series of cases in Bukit Batok.

The police had received a report of theft of undergarments at Block 106, Bukit Batok Central, on Feb 22, they said on Tuesday (Feb 27).

After conducting extensive ground investigations and referring to footage from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division identified the suspect and arrested him at 8.05pm on Monday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in other similar cases in Bukit Batok estate.

If convicted of the offence of theft, he can be jailed for up to three years and/or fined.

Two video clips of the man making away with a few brassieres and panties had been posted on Facebook on Friday by user Li Jianbin.

The clips, which have been made unavailable for public viewing, showed a man walking along the corridor, where racks of laundry were being aired.

The man then bent down and went through the clothes, before removing some clothing from the laundry rack.

Mr Li alleged that it was the fifth time such underwear theft had occurred at his home.

"I made a police report but he has not been caught," he wrote in Chinese. "Therefore I'm posting this here in hopes that it will raise awareness. He takes only women's lace underwear."
