16 new cases of Zika in Singapore, bringing total to 258

SINGAPORE - There are 16 new cases of Zika as of noon on Monday (Sept 5), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed.

One more case has been found at Joo Seng Road, and there are four cases with no known links to existing clusters.

The rest of the 11 cases are in the Aljunied Crescent, Sims Drive, Kallang Way, Paya Lebar Way cluster.

The number of new cases have been falling, and Monday's figures were 11 less than Sunday's 27. The total number of locally transmitted Zika cases stands at 258 as of Monday.

NEA has expanded its vector control operations and outreach efforts to the periphery of the Aljunied/Sims Drive cluster to Circuit Road, Geylang East Central and Geylang East Avenue 1.

As of Sunday, 63 breeding habitats - 37 in homes and 26 in common areas or other premises - have been detected and destroyed.

At Bedok North Avenue, 52 breeding habitats - 42 in homes and 10 in common areas or other premises -were detected and destroyed.

No breeding habitats have been found at Joo Seng Road thus far.
