SEOUL (THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The DNA of Korean singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong matches that of his former girlfriend's child, according to a paternity test conducted by Seoul National University Hospital.

"It is almost certain that the two are father and son biologically," said a university official on Monday, confirming the 99.999 per cent certainty.

Kim's ex-girlfriend, identified by her surname Choi, gave birth to the child last September and had him tested on Dec 9 at a hospital designated by a Seoul court.

Kim, a 29-year-old member of boy band SS501, said he would take "full responsibility for the newborn " if the paternity test identifies him as the father.

The legal battle between the two flared up last April when Choi, 31, filed a suit seeking 1.6 billion won (S$1.9 million) in damages and accusing Kim of abusing her and causing her to miscarry previously.

Kim, who acted in the 2009 series Boys Over Flowers, is serving his mandatory military duty in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
